Ivonne Herrera, M.D.

Founder of Arthritis & Osteoporosis Center in 2003

Dr. Herrera is board certified in rheumatology. After finishing her Medical School at University of Zulia, in her home country Venezuela, moved to the United States to continue her medical training. She completed residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach-Florida and then her fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of Miami – Florida. Dr Herrera settle with her family in Seaford, Delaware in 2003 where she started offering rheumatology care to the community. She provided lectures to other physicians at regional symposia, and at area hospitals, as well as conducting community seminars on arthritis and rheumatic diseases. She mentors Medical students from PCOM and she is part of the faculty of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at TidalHealth. She is an active Board Member and former president of the Rheumatology Society of Delaware. She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology and was the founder of the Osteoporosis Education Program at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. Dr. Herrera is active in patient care.

Physician Assistant

Sarah Fisher, PA-C

Sarah Fisher is a Physician Assistant who joined the Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center in August 2015. Originally from Salisbury, MD she received her Bachelor of Physician Assistant Sciences at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. She became certified in 2006. The first 9 years of her PA practice was focused in Internal Medicine. She moved into the rheumatologic field as she was interested in complicated medical conditions such as lupus and polymyalgia rheumatica. She specializes in ultrasound evaluation and musculoskeletal injection. She has participated in ultrasound diagnostic courses at NYU to further her technical skills. Outside of the office she enjoys fishing and crabbing with her husband and two children.

Danielle Steffan, PA-C

Danielle Steffan is a Physician Assistant who joined the Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center in November 2021. Originally from a small town south of Buffalo, NY, Danielle earned her undergraduate degree from the University at Buffalo. During this time, she worked as an Emergency Medical Technician. She then earned her Master of Health Science degree from Johns Hopkins University in 2017 and Master of Health Science with Physician Assistant Certification from University of Maryland, Baltimore/Anne Arundel Community College in 2021. During the PA program, she completed her clinical rotations on the eastern shore of Maryland and decided to make Delmarva her home. Danielle takes pleasure in treating many rheumatological conditions, such as psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and osteoporosis. In her spare time, she enjoys crocheting, riding her motorcycle, and spending time on the beautiful local rivers wakeboarding and fishing.

Gayle Whaley, CRNP

Gayle Whaley is a Nurse Practitioner who started at Arthritis & Osteoporosis Center in 2022. She receives her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from York College of Pennsylvania in 2011 and her Master of Science in Nursing in the Adult-Gereontology Nurse Practitioner Program from Wilkes University in 2021. She is a board-certified Adult-Gereontology Nurse practitioner through ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center). Gayle was born and raised in Chester County, Pennsylvania and recently moved to Delaware with her husband and daughter. In her spare time, she enjoys being outside and spending time with her family and friends.
